What Can I Do to Help Haiti?
Last night, Kent Annan came to the Library to discuss his book, After Shock.

The book is about Haiti after the earthquake that devastated the country in 2010 as well as the impact it had on his faith.

Among the wreckage of the earthquake, there was a lot of hope. Hope that is pervasive in the hearts of
Haitian people in spite of their poverty and loss.

A man named Anel (spelling uncertain) who works with Kent in Haiti Partners was trapped in the rubble after
the 6 story university collapsed. He had been on the third floor. He made it out, was helped to the center of town,
and slept overnight outside with many others in similar circumstances. They sang.

Someone recognized Anel and helped him get home on a bus, back to the more peaceful countryside.
After Anel was able to walk again, he announced he was going back to the city to help. He wanted to learn to teach
and communicate better so that more people could be educated. He wanted this life-changing process to continue.
He went back in spite of the wishes of his family and slept outside on a cot.

Kent said, "The earthquake caused my faith to be shaken and inspired. Because Anel keeps going, I must too."

May Anel's story inspire you, too, Keep going. You can make a difference.
